Bill Walton knows what it feels like to hit rock bottom.
The former NBA player suffered from chronic pain throughout his entire career, which not only led to his early retirement from basketball but caused him severe depression—so much so, he almost gave up on himself and his life.
However, Walton pulled himself out of the darkness by starting over and finding what he describes as his “lighthouse” or “beacon of hope.” He took on a post-basketball career in sports broadcasting and got involved with several non-profit organizations.
We sat down with Walton to get his advice on moving forward after hitting rock bottom, and how his experiences and insight translate for entrepreneurs, business leaders or anyone looking for encouragement in their career.
Watch the video above to hear what Walton advises on how to get up when you’re down, and why your network is more important than ever during those difficult times.
